The Patriarch of the Gordon family, Col. Jon Gordon married into the Churchill family and came to  Virginia from Ireland in 1738, a few generations behind the rest of the families listed here. The family is of great historical significance to 18th c. central Virginia history none the less. They were quick to establish themselves as people religious and educational authority in the countryside now consisting of Orange, Culpeper and Spotsylvania Counties.

In the 1780’s the Gordons purchased the site of the former Germanna colony and built a house where they lived for most of the 19th century. The house is no longer standing, having collapsed in the mid 20th c.

A great lineage of the Gordon Family can be found via RootsWeb here.

The Germanna Foundation and the history of Germanna is amazing; you can visit the Germanna foundation’s website for more information here.
